Violin

Born in Cologne, Christiane Hutcap began her musical studies at the prestigious Musikhochschule Köln at the age of sixteen, studying under the renowned Professor Igor Ozim. Her passion for music led her to pursue numerous International Master Classes, including those with celebrated violinists Salvatore Accardo and Wolfgang Marschner, as well as a distinguished master class on contemporary music at the famous “Tage der Neuen Musik” Darmstadt, curated by Igor Ozim himself.

As the principal of a string quartet, Christiane was mentored by the eminent chamber musician and founder of the Mainzer Kammerorchester, Professor Günther Kehr, at Musikhochschule Köln. This solid foundation has allowed her to excel in a variety of chamber music ensembles, from intimate piano trios to expansive octets. Christiane has also had the privilege of performing as a soloist, both with orchestras and in recitals alongside esteemed piano partners. Hutcap's recording with Igor Ozim of Antonio Vivaldi's “The Four Seasons – Spring” with the Marburger Kammerorchester was released on LP in 1986.

Her deep commitment to teaching began early, and in 1984, she was appointed Head of Strings at a prominent music school near Cologne. She then had the honor of working as the assistant to Professor Igor Ozim at Musikhochschule Köln for 15 years, a period during which she refined her pedagogical approach under the guidance of one of the world's foremost violin educators. In 1994, she was appointed to a full professorship at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock, where she continues to mentor both adult and pre-college students in her esteemed violin class.

In 1998, Christiane founded the Camerata Rostochiensis, a distinguished chamber orchestra formed of her violin students alongside viola, cello, and double bass students from other departments at HMT Rostock. Christiane played an active role in the orchestra, performing in the viola section, and the ensemble gained significant recognition for its innovative and dynamic performances.

Christiane Hutcap’s students are consistently highly accomplished, with many earning prestigious awards in both national and international competitions. Numerous have gone on to enjoy successful careers as soloists, principals in major orchestras, and esteemed educators in renowned music schools and universities.

In addition to her teaching, Christiane regularly gives international Master Classes in Violin, with past engagements in Germany (Haus Marteau/Bezirk Oberfranken, Weimar), Indonesia, and Slovenia, sharing her vast knowledge and passion with the next generation of violinists. Amongst her notable students are Liv Migdal, an award-winning violinist, and Peter Otto, First Associate Concertmaster of The Cleveland Orchestra and now Concertmaster of the Nashville Symphony.

Since 2009, she has been a trusted lecturer for the PE-Förderkreis für Studierende der Musik e.V. at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock.

Her dedication to both her art and her students has made her a highly respected figure in the classical music world, known for her warmth, dedication, and exceptional pedagogical approach. Christiane Hutcap stands as a beacon of excellence in violin performance and education, shaping the future of classical music through her profound artistry and unwavering commitment to nurturing the talents of young musicians worldwide.
